Consisting chiefly of letters, 10 Apr. 1916 - 29 Mar. 1918, from Hofmann to his wife, Marie Clarisse Eustis Hofmann (1866-1956), written while on concert tours throughout the U.S.; also includes newspapers clippings, photographs, recital programs, and a letter, 25 Mar. 1893, W.Q. Gresham, Dept. of State, Washington, D.C., to Marie's father, James Biddle Eustis (1834-1899), re his ambassadorial appointment as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of the United States to France. Also contains 4 volumes, 1907-1911, travel diary kept by Marie Clarisse Hofmann during her husband's concert tours throughout Russia, Jan. - Apr. 1907, Oct. - Nov. 1909, and Sept. - Dec. 1911, and Mexico, Dec. 1907 - Jan. 1908, with commentary re travel conditions, Hofmann's concert appearances, including the program performed and amount of money realized, and encounters with prominent conductors, concert artists, and composers.
